About Scott: Scott Leffler is a husband and father. But you probably know him as a talk show host. A former reporter and editor with the Lockport Journal, Leffler has been a member of the local media for nearly a decade. Married with two daughters, the 33-year-old Leffler is a Niagara County native. He grew up in the Town of Niagara, attending the now-defunct Military Road Elementary School before attending Edward Town Junior High and Niagara Wheatfield Senior High School (class of 92). He has a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio (class of 96) and has both formal and informal training in print and electronic media. Talk show host is just one of several hats that Scott wears. He and his family live in the city of Lockport and attend Emmanuel United Methodist Church, although not nearly as often as they'd like to. Scott was a Democratic committeeman, but had too many views that just didn't fit in with the Democratic party, so he left the Dems in 2005 and registered as a Libertarian. He currently serves as temporary chairman of the Niagara County Libertarian Party. His interests include tennis, hockey, politics and TV shows and movies that seemingly NO ONE ELSE likes. For example, his favorite movies include Hudson Hawk and Groundhog Day. And all his favorite TV shows get cancelled.

On Radio: Dialog was Scott's first show. It continues to air on WLVL AM 1340 at 11 a.m. daily. It focuses on a variety of topics from local, state and national politics, to social issues and examining the daily news - mainly in Lockport and Niagara County. Reason, meanwhile, is Scott's second show, which runs on WLVL's brother station, WECK AM 1230, at 10 a.m. daily. It takes a real look at life in Buffalo and Erie County ... and breaks down how the issues affect YOU. He also has a daily feature called Two Minutes of Reason which takes a single subject and boils it down in 120 seconds. Since December, 2002, Leffler has interviewed people ranging from local politicians to presidential candidates on Lockport radio. His political interviewees have included frequent presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche, former Libertarian presidential candidate Michael Badnarik and current LP candidate Bob Barr, Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and Michael Peroutka, presidential candidate from the Constitutional party. He's interviewed authors Dean Koontz, Alan Moore (V for Vendetta), and Nelson DeMille - cartoonist Wiley Miller - comedians John Ratzenberger, Terry Jones and Bill Engvall - Sheriff Joe Arpaio , Jake LaMotta and even Santa Claus.  Leffler is different from other talk show hostss in the Buffalo market in two ways. First, he deals more with local issues than with the national "hotbutton drivel" many hosts talk about ad-nauseum. Second, Leffler takes a critical look - not just at Democrats, which radio talk show hosts are famous for hating, but also at Republicans and the Bush administration. If you're looking for another right-wing Clinton-bashing talk show, look elsewhere.

History: People ask Scott all the time: "How did you end up doing this?" He might say something about four years training in college and a political science degree, but the short answer is: He knew the right people. When the host of WLVL' s morning talk show (JR Reid) retired, he mentioned Scott's name to station owner Dick Greene. Long time Buffalo broadcaster Clip Smith, who had one time worked at WLVL, put it a good word ... and Scott got a gig talking on the radio. For a while, he did Dialog while also working as a reporter, editor and page designer for Greater Niagara News, but in 2003, GNN cut Scott loose and WLVL picked him up full time. In March of 2008, Greene bought WECK radio and asked Scott to do an hour there, too.

Liberwhat?: Flourishing in other parts of the country, the Libertarian Party is fairly new to "these parts." When Scott changed his registration at the Niagara County Board of Elections, he signed on as the county's fifth registered Libertarian. He recently petitioned the state LP to create a Niagara County chapter. They agreed if he'd temporarily run it. He agreed. Now he's looking for members. Libertarians believe the answer to America's political problems is the same commitment to freedom that earned America its greatness: a free-market economy and the abundance and prosperity it brings; a dedication to civil liberties and personal freedom that marks this country above all others; and a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America's founders. Socially liberal while principled conservative would be a quick - but fairly unclear - definition of the party. If you'd like to see if you're a Libertarian, click here. If you'd like more information on the party, email Scott.
