1984 by George Orwell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Having read 1984 before, it was nice to be able to compare and contrast the narrator’s inflections and voices with what I already had in my head. The book is amazing, of course, and should be compulsory reading for everyone. It would be a crime crime not to read it at least once. (crime crime is not a typo)
But what struck me the most was Prebble’s performance. To say “narration” doesn’t do it justice. It’s hard to believe that he gave each character not only their own voice but somehow injected that voice with its own character. Double plus good.
