One Summer: America, 1927 by Bill Bryson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m a big fan of “random facts” books. And while this book has a central theme (things that take place in (or around) 1927), it does offer a bunch of fun facts that I didn’t know before — like that a member of the 1927 Yankees was from my home town.
A lot of the book focuses on Charles Lindberg and a lot of it focuses on the 1927 Yankees. Other topics include Al Capone and Herbert Hoover. Fun facts all around.
My one gripe — and I don’t know why authors all seem intent to do this — is that it jumps around all willy nilly. It’s 1927 … then it’s 1938 for some reason. And then it’s back to 1923. It gets hard to keep up at times.
Don’t let that one gripe prevent you from reading it, though, cuz is so filled with fun facts.
