The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this at the request of my wife, who had just finished reading it and wanted someone to talk to about it. All I knew going in was that there were some plot twists she “didn’t see coming.” I didn’t read the synopsis. Or reviews. Or even the cover of the book.

There were plot twists. I didn’t see them coming.

While the book itself was decent, the fact that an author so convincingly fooled me is what makes this book stand out for me. And it’s what made me suggest to a few friends that they read it. And it’s what makes me suggest that you read it.

For maximum effect, I personally suggest that you don’t get look for any more details than I’m about to give you:

On a small lakeside community, a woman goes missing. It’s a whodunit. And there are plot twists. Now go read it.

The narration was pretty decent, but not my favorite. That said, it didn’t detract from the plot twists that I didn’t see coming.
